remove gmail account

i bought used phone and i want to remove the previous owner account and create my own. how do i remove it. i had user number and password that was issued to me.

Provided you have proper access to the phone ( no encryption or lock screen p/w or pins ) blocking you then all you have to do is go into your App drawer/Settings/Accounts & sync. From there you can Manage whatever accounts are linked to the device.

Another way to completely clear out a device is to just do a factory reset from within Settings.
