This morning, I woke up to find that my Sprint HTC Evo 4G LTE was repeatedly displaying the "Preparing SIM card" message.

Since then, it has been unable to establish a data connection, nor is it able to make or receive calls.

Occasionally, it even alerts me that there is no SIM card.

I have performed MULTIPLE factory resets.

    It is NOT rooted.

Can anyone help me? It was working fine yesterday...

Welcome to Android Central! By hard-wired, I assume you mean that it's a non-removable SIM, correct? It sure sounds like you either have to contact HTC or bring it to a repair shop. Or look for a new phone.

(This was my question. I've since registered and logged in.)

Yes, it is a non-removable SIM.

That's pretty much what I've concluded. Had the thought go through my mind that rooting it might help, but I got so nervous sideloading Jellybean 4.3 that I'd be a nervous wreck by the time I finished. I could use Sprint's Easy Pay to upgrade now, but it would cost me close to a c-note I don't have...

Did you ask Sprint about the problem?

Sprint should have a center near you that has the equipment to reprogram the SIM card. There's usually no charge for that. (If the card went bad, and the phone is out of warranty, it would cost you something to have it replaced, but it shouldn't be that much. SIM cards themselves are so cheap that most carriers don't charge anything for the card, so you'd be paying for a little labor.)

The nearest Sprint Store is in Erie, PA (a good 45-minute drive, and I have no car of my own).

I've reactivated my old Blackberry, and I'll bite the bullet and use Easy Pay to buy a One Max starting next week.
