Bluetooth Connected in car but sound quality very poor

Had my HTC Desire connected to my car hi-fi for a year, played music and podcasts and all was good. Now the sound quality is very poor. It connects ok. The phone function still works but the music is very difficult to hear and then you can only just hear it when the car audio is on full blast.
Any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried unpairing the car audio device, then pairing again? Which Desire do you have? It may be worth wiping the system cache partition, if possible, but we need to know which Desire phone it is.

Re: Bluetooth Connected in car but sound quality very poor

Hi,
My phone is a Desire 600 Dual Sim. I've tried unpairing then pairing the device but no success. The problem also happens in my wife's car - same make of car.
I took it to the HTC service centre who suggested that I reformat the phone. Will this work I asked? Maybe was the cyptic reply. Reformatting the phone seems a bit drastic.

Thanks
