Why are all the sound notifications changing when I change it for one contact?

Changing a notification sound for 1 contact changes all contacts to the same sound.

In the stock texting app on my moto g 2nd generation when i go into an individual contact and change the notification sound it changes all my contacts to the same sound.

Instead of changing it through the messaging app, change it straight through the contacts app.
