I'm only aware of one other method for testing Glass apps, which is installing the Glass APKs onto a traditional device (a Nexus 7, for instance). You can then access most usual Glass functionality as well as installing and running Glass apps. However, I can't speak to the current state of these modifications... I don't know if there are suitable APKs of more recent Glass builds (XE21 being the current one).
For example, below is a link to the complete files (and instructions) for a XE5/XE6 system dump. These will install on a Nexus 7, however note the disclaimers for limited functionality (things like Hangouts). I can't say whether it will behave properly, being an out-of-date build; you should be able to at least run basic Glass apps. If you go this route, I recommend searching for more up-to-date Glass APKs to use.

I never did try installing these to a standard running AVD, but I suppose you could try that. Landscape orientation would be ideal. You'll want to use the
