Why won't my voicemail notification stop popping up?

I recently updated my Galaxy S5 to its newest software and a notification keeps popping up to set up my visual voicemail. I don't necessarily want to use visual voicemail, but no matter how many times I have cleared the notification, it still continues to pop up. This has become so annoying that I tried to subscribe to it at one point just to get it to go away. Once trying to subscribe, a screen comes up that says my order could not be completed and to call Verizon's customer service for help. Like most customer services, it was no help. I have also gone into 2 different verizon stores and asked for their assistance and their only solution was to do a factory reset on my phone. I would only like to do that if its 100% necessary. there's also no option in application manager to turn off the app. any suggestions?
