I have barely touched it and it has been a bit hot over the last hours. Should I be worried?

Yes. The battery may be faulty. Either that or something is making a heavy draw on the battery charge. Check your battery usage stats.

Also, take the battery out, lay it on a flat table and spin it around. If it spins, there's a bulge in it, which means it's bad. (Check both faces.) Not to worry - a good battery for an S4 is under $10 plus shipping, or Anker (they make good batteries) has 2 batteries and an external charger (it can charge the battery in the phone and the one outside the phone at the same time) for $25 plus shipping. Lithium batteries aren't very expensive these days. (I can remember when a 500mAh battery cost well over $50.)

    Look on Amazon.

I checked the battery log. It said that the main energy consumption was due to the 9gag app being used. Do you (or anyone) have any idea what this will suggest? The OS being faulty? The battery? Or the app? Thank you for the help and support!

    Welcome as a new member.☺

A quick search revealed that there are complaints about that app causing battery drain. Whether true I couldn't comment but you could try temporarily uninstalling it to see whether there's an improvement.
The heat you refer to would I imagine have come from a hard-working processor or faulty battery or both, so let us know what happens.

Draining a lot of current from the battery fast causes the battery to heat up. That's normal. (Having something drain a lot of current fast isn't.)
