My address book has multiple entries for the same people sometimes running in excess of 30 repetitions. This has happened ever since the upgrade to KitKat. All I did was synched my contacts including LinkedIn and Facebook. Is there a solution to this problem.

Try opening the Contacts 3-dot menu, then select Manage Contacts, then Link Contacts, or Merge Contacts if you have such options.

I dont know the issue. But this is how I solved it.
I took backup of the contacts in Google account. (Make sure you have sync-ed your Phonebook to Google Contacts.)
    Turn off Wifi/3G/4G (data)
In the phone-->Settings-->Apps-->All--> Contacts --> Force stop --> Clear data & clear Cache
In the phone-->Settings-->Apps-->All--> Contacts Storage--> Force stop --> Clear data & clear Cache
    Restart Phone
    Enable data
Sync Google account with the contacts
    Back to normal.
