What is MTP initialising?

I have a Samsung ACE 2. it has just spent the past 10 min pinging each time it goes through a cycle of media scanning then MTP initialising. I'm not aware of initiating this and don't know what it is.

Welcome to Android Central! Is it connected to a computer via USB? Did you just insert an SD card? How do you know it's scanning media?

If a device is constantly scanning an SD card, there's a good chance one of the files is corrupt, which causes the Media Scanner to get stuck. Unmount the SD card (in Settings>Storage), remove it, and insert it into your computer.
