Why won't my Samsung Tab 2 turn on or charge?

My samsung tab 2 won't turn on or charge

Can you help me? My sons samsung tab 2 suddenly stopped charging and now won't turn on. He plugged it in whilst it was on and the battery still drained down. Now it won't turn on or charge I have brought a new charger but still no avail. I get the initial charging symbol but then it goes off, this is repeated every 10 seconds or so. I have talent the back off and removed the battery for an hour then put it back in but that didn't work. I have tried holding the power button and pressing the volume +/- but that hasn't done anything. Is it just a simple fix as a new battery??

Presumably as well as using a new charger, you are using a new USB lead as well? If so, it could be a fault with the USB port in the tablet, or possibly with the internal circuitry....but I think it's most likely that the battery has failed.
