Why has my Samsung S3 GT-I9300 screen frozen?

samsung s3 GT-I9300 screen frozen

I have samsung s3 GT-I9300 and suddenly while working the screen froze and then i tried wiping and rebooting but nothing actually happened. I even tried using kies firmware upgrade and initialisation but it said doesnt work for this version. please let me know if i am wrong somewhere or is there any other way to solve this

Have you tried removing and replacing the battery? Perhaps leaving it out for an extended period?
