I just got a Galaxy s5 and when I send a text with emojis in it to my friend with an iPhone 5s, they just show up as a blank message. What is wrong?

He has to send you at least one iMessage marked as an SMS message, otherwise his phone is interpreting the incoming texts as iMessages, and that doesn't work.

(Apple claims to be looking into a way to make iMessage compatible with everyone else, but I don't think even a corpse could hold his breath long enough to see it happen.)

That's what emojis are. The app you use to read the text translates them to pictures. Like : ) (without the space) gets translated to :) (a smile smiley) here. Apple uses its own set of emojis (it uses its own everything), so unless you use a text app that sends Apple emojis, he's not going to see pictures.

Recognizing this thread is ancient...

My friend has an iPhone 5s, and I don't Mac in any form, so I'm having trouble walking her through this - Can you tell me how to send an iMessage marked as SMS?

Thanks, if you're still out there!
