Why do I have to put my phone on speaker or Bluetooth for callers to hear me?

Callers cannot hear me unless on speaker / bluetooth.

When I place or answer a call, the person on the other end cannot hear me unless I am on speakerphone or on my buetooth.

Welcome to Android Central! The phone mic might be broken or defective. Speakerphone uses a separate mic. Which phone do you have? How new is it? If it's still under warranty, contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
