Why is my screen going black during a call?

I can still have the conversation, but don't know where the buttons are when they ask you to press a certain number.

It goes black when you bring it near your face, so you can't press buttons with your cheek. If it doesn't come back on within a second or two after you take it away from your face, the proximity sensor is bad.
