Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have? Are you sure the photos are saving to the phone? Use a file manager app to look directly at the /DCIM/Camera folder, and make sure the photos are there. If so, also make sure that there isn't a ".nomedia" file present in that folder, because that instructs the system to ignore that folder when scanning for photos to display in the Gallery.
