I pulled my phone out of my pocket today and it had turned itself off. I KNOW that it had about a 30% battery life at the time because I had used it just a few minutes before I noticed it was off. I tried turning it back on, but got nothing. Not even the low battery screen that normally comes on when its dead. I tried charging it, but the red light indicating its charging isn't coming on. I've tried multiple chargers and even my tablet and computer and still nothing. I tried taking the battery out for a few hours as well. I've tried to do the complete factory mode restart, safe mode, but the only sign of life I can get is that everytime I put the battery back in, it vibrates and the Samsung Galaxy logo pops up for a second and then it goes black. One time after putting the battery back in, it actually turned on and seemed like it would be fine, but quickly shut off again with no warning.

I noticed for the past few days it has randomly said it doesn't recognize my SIM card and it has to restart. So I restart and it works fine. Not sure if that's related or not.

I don't have insurance on it and these things are expensive. I'd appreciate any tips or advice.

    Thanks!

Welcome to the forums. Take the battery out, and on a smooth flat surface, try to spin it. If it does, you have a bulged battery and needs to be replaced. If this is the case, the bulge in the middle is causing a bad connection, which can mimic everything you are experiencing.

It noticeably spins much better on one side than the other so that could be it. I will try and find out tomorrow! Thanks!

Turns out it wasn't the battery. The good news is it was under manufacturer warranty so they're shipping me a new phone.

I'm baffled. A few days back I went to Batteries Plus and put a brand new battery in my phone and had the same result, which prompted me to believe it was not the battery. So, that's when I went to T-Mobile and found out it was under warranty. My replacement phone arrived tonight. The replacement phone comes with nothing, no battery, charger, not even the back of the phone. So I put my old battery in the new phone and am having the exact same problem. I figure my old battery is probably dead, so I tried to charge it, but it won't. Since the replacement phone is used(I'm assuming based on the packaging and the fact that I'm supposed to mail back my old phone), maybe its just a bad phone someone else had replaced? My plan is Batteries Plus again in the morning to double check its not the battery and then to T-Mobile.

You're assuming correctly. The phone they're replacing (your old one) is used too. So you're getting a good used phone (rebuilt and checked) for a bad used phone.
