Am guessing then that the phone is good to go with the proper SIM card or whatever it takes. I would just need to set up a plan with a Thai cell phone provider while I am there?

The phone has to be SIM-unlocked or it won't take the SIM card.

It also has to be able to handle the frequencies used there if you want high speed (3G) data.

Or you could set up a SIP service in the US and access it through the internet from anywhere, giving you a US number while you're out of the US (which would depend on data or wifi to use).

Turns out the phone I bought from Straight Talk doesn't have a sim card! So...will not be able to make my phone work in Thailand. Guess I'm left to buying a disposable phone when I get there. Has anyone been through that? How easy are they to find, are they prepaid, can I call long distance to the US etc?
