I just upgraded from an HTC One M7 to a Nexus 6. Love it, by the way. Anyway, I had about 50 contacts in my HTC that were manually entered, thus stored locally on phone storage. I cannot figure out how to get these contacts to sync to Google. I know contact sync is working, because all my Google contacts are on there, it's just those few contacts on the local storage. Is there any way to get these contacts to back up? If not, is there any way I can transfer them without having to type in all 50 contacts manually.

Welcome to Android Central! In the People app, tap Menu, then Manage Contacts, then Import/Export Contacts. You can export contacts to your internal storage as a .vcf or .csv file (it can depend on the device). Once they are exported, you can import them to your Google accounts following the steps in this section of my guide: http://forums.androidcentral.com/gen...ml#post3707512

I'm not entirely sure if you can select only your Phone contacts to export, or if it has to be all contacts. Try selecting the option to display only your Phone contacts in the People app, then try the Export Contacts option.
