Why does my lock screen want me to Swipe even though I've set it to pattern?

When I go to Settings > Lock Screen, it says "secured with pattern", but when I turn my GS5 off then on, it wants a swipe, not a pattern.

If I wait an hour or so it reverts to asking for a pattern. Is there a time interval after initially turning it on where it only needs swiping to turn it back on?

Welcome to Android Central! There should be an option in Settings>Security for "Automatically lock", which allows you to select how long the phone waits after the screen goes to sleep before you have to unlock again. So if you set it to 5 minutes, then the phone will wait 5 minutes after the screen sleeps before you have to go through the screen unlock. Any time before those 5 minutes are up, and you just have to swipe.
