My fiance bought a used Sprint Galaxy S5 that turns out to still be active for our son for Christmas on Craigslist. I've ran the IMEI and it's coming up clean (so far) so my guess is that they are ditching on their contract and just sold the phone without calling Sprint. When I put my SIM card in, I don't have the option to even put in an unlock code.

I've done just a little bit of research, but I'm turning to the forum first. Are there any roots or mods that I can perform to get the damn phone to take my AT&T sim? Once they stop paying their bill, then what happens? Is the phone worthless?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately yes if this phone is being abandoned under its current contract from the previous owner then Sprint would blacklist the device until the bill is paid in full, ETF's paid.

Such a shame this type of activity takes place and good folks end up with a rotten deal.
