Why do I have a H+ symbol instead of 4G on the Galaxy S5?

H+ symbol instead of 4G on Galaxy s5

I recently received a Galaxy s5 for xmas, and instead of the 4G symbol in the top right, there is either an H or H+ and sometimes nothing at all. This proves to be a problem as it seems to have worse connection compared to my mother who has the 4G symbol (we are on a family data plan, she gets connection in places I do not).

AT&T is our service provider
Phone was ordered from Spain. There are two of them not only mine. My brother also has the H/H+
It is not rooted nor will that ever happen
Both phones run on 4.4 Kitkat

I'm not the mos tech savvy person, so if its not as easy as finding a button on the settings, a simple explanation on what to tell geeksquad (or whomever you insist) is all I need.

Thanks!

Re: H+ symbol instead of 4G on Galaxy s5

The phones doesn't have the 1700/2100MHz band that AT&T uses for 4G (it uses 1700/2600), so it's using the H+ frequencies that it has. Different parts of the world use different frequencies. You need an SM-900A phone for AT&T. Look under the battery for a label with the model number and you'll probably find that's not it.
