I have been using computer keyboards for well over 35 years and have never seen a computer keyboard that did NOT have both a "Backspace" and a "Delete" key. A backspace key removes characters before the cursor and a delete key removes the characters following the cursor. SIMPLE! I am fairly new to smart phones and have Google searched this question many times without getting a definitive answer. I am well aware of how you can do this by first moving the cursor position but this is not what I'm looking for. Is there a substitute keyboard that provides this key? Is there a method of accomplishing this WITHOUT first moving the cursor? Please help.

Welcome to Android Central! Probably the main reason is space limitation. There's only so much space to put keys, so the decision was probably made a while ago to put the more commonly used Backspace key, rather than the Delete key.
