Should I worry about receiving text msg from personal contact that they didn't send?

I received a text from a personal contact saying "Give me a call" followed by a red triangle with an exclamation point in it. When I went into that contact's text messages, the message was not there. It just appeared at the top of my phone. I contacted the person and she verified she had not texted me. What's up?

Welcome to Android Central! Which device do you have? Did the text come up as a notification? Are you saying that it actually doesn't show up in the Messaging app?

It sure sounds suspicious. You didn't click on any links or "Accept" buttons, did you?
