Why aren't my emoji's able to be viewed?

Message may be corrupted on recipient device. Change input mode to automatic.....The problem is, I can't seem to find this automatic mode anywhere??

Welcome to the fourms. Have you tried a reboot or clearing the cache in Settings>Application Manager>swipe over to all apps>scroll down to Messaging app. Click on it, click clear cache.

I'm not clear about whether you or the recipient are unable to view. Assuming the former, try Messaging, 3-dot menu, Settings, Text Message, Character Encoding.

Belodion was getting there. It's not in the phone settings, rather open the Message app and hit menu (hold left soft button)

On my Samsung Note 3, open stock Message app - Menu button - Settings - Input Mode - Automatic.

Not sure if that's the solution though.

S4 should be the same if on KitKat :
