Why does my Moto G say I have less storage than I obviously have?

why does my moto g say i have less storage than i obviously have?

I have a Motorola moto g which is currently running on version 4.4.4, however, lately when I have been trying to download apps & updates my phone says that I don't have enough space... Yet after deleting many apps and all of my music, I have supposedly only around 500mb left of my storage space, I would appreciate any help or tips.
