Why can't I delete unwanted pictures on my Galaxy S3?

I cant delete unwanted pictures on my galaxy s3

I have a samsung galaxy s3 & tried to delete unwanted pictures on my gallery. I selected the pictures I wanted to delete unfortunately there was no instructions or r "garbage symbol" on the screen that i can click to completely delete the unwanted pictures. Help is much appreciated.

Welcome to Android Central! Are these photos that are locally stored, or are they photos stored in your Picasa/Google+ Photos cloud? Does the photo have a little Picasa icon in the corner? If so, you probably can't delete it from the Gallery app--you may have to do so from the Photos app (the one with the pinwheel icon, which is associated with Google+). Or you could go to your Google+ Photos on the web and delete the photo there.

If the photo is stored locally, then long-press it, and see what options come up.
