Why is my S4 battery draining fast all of a sudden?

S4 battery life draining fast all of a sudden

I have the i9500 s4, and recently my battery has been draining very fast, about a percent every 3 minutes. I am not doing anything CPU intensive, just reading a news app or in the browser. I have GPS and other location services turned off, the brightness is on auto, and I have killed all processes, cleared the cache of the entire phone, restarted the phone, pulled the battery, all to no avail. Also, for those wondering, I don't have an SD card in the phone. Is my battery faulty, should I just go buy a new one? What should I do, I feel like I've tried everything. I'm running Android kitkat 4.4.4

Re: S4 battery life draining fast all of a sudden

Welcome to Android Central! It'd be a good test to try a new or different battery. Do you know anyone with an S4 who'd be willing to swap batteries for a few hours?

It would also help to see some battery stats. Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

It was part of that list I posted previously in this thread. No worries, just use the phone until the battery is down to 20-30% again, then look at the Screen usage.

Thanks for the additional info. I can't see anything that stands out, and I agree, that battery life seems subpar for a healthy battery. If this had been a gradual decline, I would suspect a battery that is just getting old and worn out. But if it started suddenly, that seems less likely. Try wiping the cache partition, if you haven't already: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744
