    notified by EE that I was nearing my 5gb monthly mobile data limit. Usually use around 500mb. Checked mobile data usage and found that the culprit was my email account. It had used nearly 5gb on background data in a month. Why is this happening all of a sudden and how can I fix it

    Try Email, 3-bar menu top left, Settings, then open your account and check your sync settings.
    Also, it's a good idea to set mobile data Warnings and Limits in Settings, Data Usage. Once a Warning level has been reached, you'll be alerted in the notification bar....you can then take action. Mobile data will be stopped once a Limit level has been reached. Of course in both cases you can reset and adjust the limits however you want them.

    I installed power toogle toolbar. Lets me turn sync on/off from homescreen. Since I am somewhat a power user I like easy access to settings.Why has my email background data suddenly risen to 4.5gb?-screenshot_2015-01-28-07-48-38.jpg
