Should my HTC One M8 appear as a USB drive in Windows explorer on XP sp3? I expected it to, but it doesn't.

When I plug in my M8 to windows XP:
    - The HTC sync manager app launches,
    - The windows auto-play dialog pops up, and
    - (if i look in windows explorer) i see that a "CD Drive G:" has popped up
    - as well as a device called "HTC One_M8" with no drive letter.

If I explore the HTC One_M8 device, I see everything, but when I explore the CD Drive device, XP prompts me to insert a CD-Rom into the drive. it doesn't show the contents of the M8.

The reason I need a drive letter is because I am trying to access my phone's music folder with an MP3 tag editor. That software wants a folder path including a drive letter. (The device "HTC One_M8" does not appear as a choice in that software's dialog box)

I have tried the ideas in this thread:

    No fix.

thanks for any help - will report back

I noticed this on Windows 7 that I no longer get a drive letter with 2 phones.

Hopefully someone can advise you this evening.
