Why isn't my tablet charging?

I have a new charger for it and the battery icon says it's charging but the percentage isn't going up it just continues to go down

Welcome to Android Central! Which tablet? Why did you get a new charger--did the old one seem to break? Are you charging from a wall outlet or a computer USB port?

If multiple charging cables or wall charging plugs yield the same result, then it's more likely that there's a problem with either the tablet's battery or with the charging port.

Are you sure your charger is ok? Maybe there is something wrong with connector on your phone.

1. damaged battery
2. broken usb port
3. heavy apps / processses running during charging
