Re: Galaxy S4: factory reset
Hello. You could factory reset it with the hardware buttons but you would lose all your data. If you could connect it to a pc via usb, you could save data via kies, or copy photos from the DCIM file, but will not work if you have a secure pin/pw Lock Screen.
Indulge me on another way. I had a black screen on my Note 3 twice in the summer. I eventually (the 1st time) figured I had accidentally hit the auto box on the Brightness slider.
It shouldn't have caused a full black screen, but it did.
Try blindly pulling down the Notification shade and pulling the slider to the right.
OOPS - Before all that though, just restart it or pull the battery for 20 minutes.
Also try a cache partiition wipe in Recovery mode while off, and/or try a restart into Safe* mode.
If the screen is truly gone these won't work.
Recovery Mode: Volume up - Power - Home buttons together, go to wipe cache partiition with the volume key, select with the Power key, then select reboot.
Safe mode: Volume down and Power - Home key.
