How I delete an IMAP account being checked through the Gmail app in Android 5.0?

I had a considerable battery drain in my new LG G3 and I figured out it was from the gmail app, due to constant syncing my yahoo account there. I read in this same web the best is to delete that yahoo account from the app and use separate apps. A lot of people seem to have this problem. Ok, so I was able to stop syncing the account, but there is no way I can DELETE from my gmail app. It is bothersome to still have it there.
Any clues?

I don't have been G3 but try going to device: Settings > Accounts > Select Yahoo > Remove account.

Add the Yahoo account in your email app of choice and you should be good.
