Why can't I control my music from my lock screen anymore (S4)?

S4 Can't control music from lock screen anymore

I have a galaxy S4 and my music apps can't be controlled from the lock screen. I use beats music primarily. I believe this problem started when I downloaded 8 tracks/pandora. I used to be able to pause and skip songs but that went away. So, I uninstalled 8 tracks and pandora, but the problem persists. I cant find anything in the settings that could help change this... any suggestions on how to bring back lock screen control?
