Why won't apps download to my new SD card?

I have recently upgraded my 2 GB SD card to an 8GB. I have over 6Gb left on it now, but when I go to download a game, that is on 1.16Gb in size, I get a notification saying "Insufficient space on external memory". Can anyone help?

Apps are stored on the internal memory of the phone not the SD card. What phone do you have? We'll try and help by letting you know how much memory is available for storing apps.

In the meantime, you can delete unused apps to free space or go into system settings > applications > sort by size > clear cache for the apps at the top of the list. This is only a temporary solution since the cache will be rebuilt and you'll be right back where you started.
