Can't hear audio on phone calls using wired Bose headphones

I have no audio when trying to make phone calls on my Galaxy S3 using my new Bose headphones (wired, noise-cancelling). I can hear YouTube videos and even the audio on videos sent via text, but not on phone calls. Went to Verizon store and got a disinterested shrug from salesperson who then tried to sell me different headphones.
These same headphones work perfectly on my husband's Note.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Can't hear audio on phone calls using wired Bose headphones

Try a cheap wired handsfree (you can find them for a buck in a dollar store). If that works, the phone (but not the Note 3) is looking for a mic before it switches phone calls to the jack, and if your headphones don't have a mic, it won't switch.

Re: Can't hear audio on phone calls using wired Bose headphones

Thanks for tip. I tried your suggestion with a pair of earbuds with no mic. Interestingly, I could hear the phone audio just fine -- couldn't talk, of course. And the Bose does have a mic that works perfectly on the Note. Hmmmm...
