Unknown Error 24 when installing Facebook messenger

Hi,

I get Unknown Error 24 when installing Facebook messenger on my S4 4.4.2. I've tried locating the folder in Data/data but the only folder in there is called com.sec.android.app.FileShareServer and the files inside don't seem to relate to any of my apps - there only a couple of files and they contain data like my personalised name of my phone (John's S4).

I've also tried deleting my Google play cache and data.

I've tried looking into rooting and Towelroot doesn't support my phone. I'm not keen to root manually as I don't want to ruin the phone.

Are there any suggestions on how I can fix it, please? Much appreciated.

Regards,

John

Re: Unknown Error 24 when installing Facebook messenger

Welcome to Android Central! Try going to App Manager, select Download Manager, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. If that doesn't help, try going to Settings>Accounts, remove your Google account completely, then add it back again.

Wiping the system cache partition is another possibiilty: http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5744

Re: Unknown Error 24 when installing Facebook messenger

Thanks for replying B. Diddy. Unfortunately neither of the first two options worked. I haven't tried the system cache partition wipe, that looks like I'll need to set a while aside to do that. It is looking like rooting might be an option I have to turn to. Have you got any tips of the simplest way to do this, to someone who is not a technical dunce, but isn't an expert either? Thanks.

Re: Unknown Error 24 when installing Facebook messenger

Sorry, but I don't have any rooting experience myself--but rooting shouldn't be necessary to fix this problem. Wiping the cache is pretty fast--it takes about 3 or 4 minutes total, maybe even less.
