I would need the machine to be on to back up the data, correct? And it will not come on, hence the need for the reset. Am desperate to save my info first. Any solution?

If it can't turn on you can't reset it or get the data. (If it's one of those with a reset hole, that's just a hardware reset, it has nothing to do with an Android factory reset, which you'd need to back up before doing. And it won't do a hardware reset if it won't turn on either.)

Either your battery is completely gone (leave the charger plugged in at least 24 hours, then see if anything happens with the charger still plugged in when you try to turn it on. If you get it to turn on for a fraction of a second even, it's a dead battery) or some hardware went bad. If it's a bad motherboard, your data is already gone.

In any event, it has to go in for repair. You'll probably lose all your data. Which is why all your data should be backed up at all times.
