For T-Mobile PREPAID account I need to boost my signal to a useful/meaningful strength. T-Mobile gives for free a signal booster to the postpaid accounts but not the prepaid. I am in a mountain area near the edge of the signal boundaries My android device (Alcatel 5020) receive 1-2 bars of 2G sometimes 3G which is not good for any real work. how do I fix this?

You choose the carrier by the signal, then you choose the plan. Evidently either TMobile is the only carrier in your area, or you didn't do your homework before choosing them.

Assuming you can get a good signal standing on your roof, a signal booster will work. (It can only repeat what it gets - if it gets a weak signal, it's going to send a noisy signal to your phone.) You could mount a large (30db gain or more) antenna in a location that gets good signal with that antenna, and connect it to a smaller antenna (maybe 10db gain) aimed at your location. If the distance isn't very far, just a mountain in your way or something, it might work.

Otherwise, you'll have to find a carrier that gives you a better signal, resort to a wired phone (or VoIP over your internet connection) or find some method other than telephony..
