My phone storage is 16GB and the miscellaneous file is taking up a third of my storage. I go into storage then the file and there is only a couple files and they are KB sized. Where are the files that have a total of 5GB that are taking up a third of my storage?

The MISC files in data storage sometimes can be huge, but it's easy to find the origin and delete them.

Go to settings - storage and wait until all calculations are done. Tap on MISC and you'll see a list of files. By default they come bigger first. Scroll up and down the list to see who's taking so much room. Post the names of them and we'll try to help you.

If you only get those small files you said, reboot the phone and do that process again. Tell us which phone you have and android version.

I have the exact same question, only I can see the names of the files. Please see the attached screen shots. What I'm really curious about is the one marked Vault taking up 3.61GB. The whole miscellaneous files portion takes up 9.09GB. Can I delete Vault? What about the one labeled amazonmp3? I've searched the web and can't find anything about these, and I haven't downloaded anything called vault. This is a Galaxy S5 running Android 5.0.

Ok so I came across this problem recently too. It seems Vault is a folder of files that have been downloaded throughout the use of your phone. I wouldn't delete the whole thing until you know what's in there. That being said, there is a solution!!!

(Note: I have a Samsung S5 so this may be slightly different for others.)
Go to Apps --> My Files
Under Device Storage, your phone's folders are listed. Find Vault. You can then open the folder and view what exactly is taking up space, and delete whatever you think is not necessary. I wouldn't delete any app related files if you're not sure; my folder was full of stupid downloaded pictures from websites I had visited, which all got deleted.
Alternatives: my phone offers a Search option when I open My Files, so I just searched for "Vault" and was lead directly to it. Also, if you really can't figure it out on the phone, another option would be to connect your phone to you computer and use Windows Explorer to search for Vault and delete any unnecessary files.

    Hope this helped!
