To see how much space is actually available for installing apps, install Terminal Emulator:

Open it and type: df
Hit Enter.
Ignore most of the stuff that comes up and look at the line that starts with /data. It shows the total size, space used, and remaining space available. /data is where apps go. As you can see, the total space in /data is much less than the 8GB total internal memory.
8GB is a fairly small amount of storage these days and as you can see only a portion of that is available for apps. And some games are real space hogs. Also, you're probably saving photos to internal memory. In the camera settings you should be able to change it to save to the SD card.
