i have an android tablet, version 4.2.2. about 2 weeks ago a screen came up telling me i had an update that needed to be installed. i could do it now or postpone until another specificially choosen time. i choose 1 am & went on about my game playing & assumed ir would do its business at 1 am. it has been trying to download FOTA since then. i have called my provider who helped me "factory reset" my tablet, which stops the download for about 5 minutes & i have "force stopped" the download which stops it for 10 seconds. once i force stop it, i can not do it again unless i power off & power back on. the only other option i can choose from the app info page is clear cache, which only takes it down to 12.00kb & no further. it NEVER progresses past 0% & uses up my battery. it also uses up my data if i leave home. my provider has no idea what to d . im going crazy, please help!!!

What Android tablet do you have? Let's start with that and we'll try and help with more specific information.

FOTA appears to be an app that allows you to specify when the update should be downloaded. I'd suggest removing the app and see if that allows the phone to download the update. Also, you can try connecting to Kies and see if the update can be installed manually.

I can not delete. Only force stop. I can only do this once then I have to power off & on again to force stop, yet again. It only stops the downloading for 10 seconds. I have reset to factory settings, that stops it about 30 seconds. I have stopped it from auto updating anything, that does not stop this download.

Root the phone. If you don't even want to see the update notices (the update will "fail at around 25%), turn off the updater (in Application manager - it should be evident which is the update app).

If u don't want to update the firmware version right now then go to
    - settings
    - app
    - all apps
    - find fota open it
    - then clear the cache data it will stop downloading.
