Why do I get the error message Connection Failed Error when trying to download emails on 3G?

[AC Question]

I can't receive email on 3g, I get a Connection Failed Error

I have a Samsung Note 4 and unless I'm using wifi I can't receive any email.

Welcome to Android Central! Which carrier do you have? 3G speeds can sometimes be very slow, so it might be timing out.

Do you by any chance have background data restricted for email? Settings > Data usage > Mobile > scroll down and tap "Email" > scroll down and make sure "Restrict Background Data" is not checked.
