On my Samsung Galaxy S® III, why won't my screen swipe?

Samsung Galaxy S® III - screen will not swipe

Samsung Galaxy S® III - screen will not swipe. The phone comes on, shows usual start-up screen but does not seem to register my finger swipe to unlock? Any suggestions, I tried pulling battery and restarting, no luck.

Welcome to Android Central! Does it register any touches at all? Any recent drops, trauma, or water exposure? You may have to bring it to a repair shop to replace the digitizer.
