Why don't I have email notifications in my native email app?

No email notifications in native email app

I recently reverted back to the Samsung native email app (the latest update of Yahoo! Mail was too much for me to take...). Now I cannot get the email app to notify me when I have new emails. The little mail icon updates on my home screen, but I don't get a flashing light or a noise.

I've tried all the suggested fixes I've found. Sync is on, the notification settings in the email are correct, I've cleared the data from my app and reset my account. Nothing is working. My Gmail, calendar and SMS notifications all work.

The one odd thing is that when I look at the app info
Settings>App Manager>All>Email
There is a box below the Force Stop button that says Show Notifications. It is unchecked but I cannot check it.

Any advice?

Welcome to Android Central! That's odd. Are there any other apps installed that might control the phone's notifications?

In the App Manager, tap Menu, then Reset All App Preferences, and see if that works. If not, then try wiping the cache partition, but we need to know which device you have first.
