When asked to press 1 for this option or press 2 for that and I press, nothing happens. What's going on?

When asked to "press 1 for this option or press 2 for that" and I press, nothing happens.

I'm trying to contact an airline regarding an issue with a ticket, and I get this automated answering machine, which tell me to press a number in order to speak with a representative... You know... Press 1 if you want to book a new flight... Press 2 if you've already booked a flight etc... Now when I press something on my phone nothing is happening... I thought it was a problem with this specific airline, but now I tried another one but I still got the same problem. I tried my brother's phone, and it's the same. I sadly don't have a landline lying around to try. Any ideas?

Try going into Phone -> Settings -> Call Settings and change DTMF Tones to "Long". It might help them be recognized.
