why two mail icons but same email address

[AC Question]

Have the M envelope icon for my gmail address but the is also another envelope icon which is also receiving the same emails that are going to my gmail address....why is this second one neccessary

Welcome to Android Central! It sounds like you're looking at the Gmail app (the envelope icon with the big M on it) and the stock Email app that comes preinstalled on the phone The Email app can sync with lots of different email accounts, including your Gmail account. If you only use Gmail, then I suggest disabling the Email app. Go to Settings>Apps>All, select Email, and tap Disable. Or you could remove the Gmail account from the Email app by opening the Email app, tapping Menu>Settings, and selecting the account there to remove.
