    battery life went from full to 1/4th in 12 hours and phone was very warm to touch as it gets when online.

    Welcome to Android Central! Android doesn't work like Windows--in other words, if you're not doing anything, the RAM doesn't clear out. Android prefers to have some apps open in RAM, and will automatically do so, depending on usage patterns. See these articles:

    Sometimes, a misbehaving app might work overtime and cause overheating and excess battery drain--you can look for this easily by going to Settings>Battery, and seeing if any app is using an unusual amount of battery.

    Another common problem is a corrupt media file on an SD card, which causes the system's Media Scanner to get stuck, thus causing the CPU to work overtime. Try unmounting the card (in Settings>Storage​), remove it, and reboot.
