How do i get portable WiFi on my Moto G?

So i have a prepaid moto g and i want to know how to get portable wifi on it, like say if i'm at the park or school and want to access the internet, go on instagram or something I cant bc i don't have WiFi. I have tried the Setting> More...> Tethering & portable hotspot> Set up Wi-Fi hotspot, i have tried everything and nothing seems to be working. Do i need to buy somthing for my phone or what? plz help!!!

Welcome to Android Central! You're asking about using your phone as a wi-fi hotspot so that some other wi-fi-only device like a laptop or tablet can connect to the internet by connecting to your phone? Or are you saying that you can't access the internet with your phone using mobile data (3G/4G)?

Wi-fi hotspot usually requires an extra fee to the carrier (or a more expensive plan). If your phone actually isn't getting 3G/4G data, then are you sure your plan includes mobile data?
