Why can't I hear a dial tone or incoming callers?

1) You don't hear a dial tone on a cellphone. That was to let you know that the central office noticed that you picked your phone up and it was ready for you to dial. If you mean the touchtones (the tones it makes when you're dialing) and the person you're talking to, are you having these problems with the earpiece (at the top of the phone), the speaker, or both? It could be a bad earpiece, it could be a bad earphone jack, it could be a bad speaker - or it could be something else.
