Can a black spot on screen be fixed?

I dropped my phone and now have a black spot on the screen that seems to be getting bigger. It started out as a bunch of lines across the screen and then became a couple of small spots and now is a bigger spot and seems to be getting bigger. Can I fix this ? If so how?

What phone are we referring to here make and model? Sound like the screen needs to be replace, are you comfortable tearing into the working of the phone?
